PROJECT INFO

Mobility

According to the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled (KFPD), about 672,000 individuals in the DPRK, or about 2.8 percent of the entire population, have locomotive or physical disabilities. KFPD reports that “[t]he most common causes of disability are due do traffic and work accidents, illness/infection, and congenital diseases. Micro-nutrient deficiencies (iron, iodine and vitamin A) are also one of the main causes for concern.” Cura Mission has been working hard to meet the requirements of a North American donor organization that is committed to “transforming lives through the gift of mobility.” Our first shipment of sturdy, cost-effective wheelchairs were donated at the beginning of the year and will be distributed throughout North Korea by KFPD.

The direct beneficiaries of this worthwhile project will be 550 physically disabled individuals in North Korea and their families who will benefit from the freedom of movement afforded by these wheelchairs. With the goal to serve the underserved, Cura is wholeheartedly committed to turning this project.
